MARS
And Its Dignities and Debilities
The planet Mars is named after the Roman god of war. In Rome he was a very important god because he was considered the father of Romulus and Remus (legendary founders of Rome). He was also considered the defender of the Romans. The army of Rome, as well as Roman athletes, trained in one of the temples dedicated to Mars. In the other Roman temple dedicated to him is where they housed "the sacred spears of mars" . Before war would be upon the Romans, the consul would shake the spears while yelling "Mars awaken!" Mars was considered the ultimate warlord; the true warlord of the army. He was regarded as such an important figure that he gained the name "Mars the Avenger", and was considered the personal guardian of the emperor during Emperor Caesar's reign. Mars was considered nearly as an important god as Jupiter. Mars is often shown dressed in full armor with a shield at his side. He was often accompanied by his children Fuga and Timor, who were personifications of flight and fear. Despite his respect among the Romans, in most mythological texts of him, he was not well liked and this had do to with his love of fighting. This love of fighting often caused trouble and in some cases bloodshed. He was also well known for being involved with the goddess Venus in a love affair (even though she was married to Vulcan).
Mars astronomically is considered the "red" planet because of the iron/ferric oxide (rust) that gives the planet a reddish appearance. This may have been why the Greeks and Romans connected this planet with the Roman god of war...because of its resemblence of blood. Mars is the fourth planet from the sun, and surprisingly it is the second smallest planet. It is one of the "terrestial" planets (planets closest to the sun). Surprisingly it has a thin atmosphere, filled with volcanoes, valleys, deserts, ice caps, and craters. In fact, Mars is home to the largest Volcano in our solar system, Olympus Mons. Another surprising fact about this planet is that it has seasonal cycles similar to Earth, as well its tilt and rotation. Mars has two moons (known as Phobos and Deimos (though many researchers believe they could be one of the "Mars trojans", trapped asteroids or objects sharing Mars's orbit along with Eureka). One common theory is that there could be (or could have been) life on Mars. In fact, a term for alien life is often called a "Martian". This may be because of its atmosphere's appearance to the earth.
Mars in astrology is the planet of action, passion, drive, courage, strengths, ambition, and sexuality. The energy of Mars is the energy that we contact after we have already developed an ego with the sun, connected emotionally with the moon, have learned how to communicate with Mercury, and when we have begun to interact with our world through Venus. Once we began to desire various things (or people) in our lives...we also begin to find ways we can take action in order to obtain what we want and keep it. Mars is the planet that reflects our passions; how much we really want something. Mars is the planet that drives us and motivates us to move in the world. Mars is our sense of ambition...what we are willing to do to accomplish goals. This planet is only motivated by challenges or "goals". Any challenge will do, especially healthy rivalry. Its biggest challenges are the other planets in astrology. When we need any of the benefits representative of the other planets, Mars is the planet that will give us the drive to get it. Mars also represents our strengths, though not necessarily physical strengths. Mars is a planet that focuses on "inner" strength and energy. A strong will may be more important to this planet than a strong arm. This is also why it is the planet of courage; a planet that will give us the energy and drive to face what we fear in the outside world. And yet Mars can represent what (or who) we fear in our daily lives. While Venus represents the thing that incites our jealousy, Mars is representing the intensity of our jealousy along with our impulsive jealous actions. Just like Venus, it is the planet representing desire...mostly sexual desire. Mars has always been representative of the "masculine" part of sexuality; the energy we gain to go after what we desire by making use of whatever "tool" to "conquer" our desires. While Venus is the planet desiring love, Mars desires to win and dominate whatever we are desiring. Venus is mostly receptive, usually using indirect signals to draw in lovers (or a lover). Mars takes the active role in life...if all else fails it's time to get down and dirty. And Mars always plays dirty! Mars represents our sexual energy and sexual style. It's what motivates us to have sex with whomever we desire, giving us the courage to "jump in". Mars represents our aggression..the actions we take when we lose our temper. While Mars is considered a "masculine" planet, this is mainly because men more readily embrace the energies of Mars, while there are several parts of Mars that women will project. In fact, women may be more sexually turned on by these qualities in a man, as women have a tendency to see Men as "exciting" or more "sexually" available than they are. The idea of this projection often causes controversy. However, we cannot deny how the social world has affected our views on the sexes. For example, would you not agree that men are more comfortable with challenges involving sports or violence, as well as more interested in sexual challeneges than women? If you agree with this notion, then you understand exactly what I mean when I say men more readily embrace this energy. This does not mean that women shouldn't or couldn't embrace this energy. Embracing this energy is the only way that women can get things accomplished, and when women more readily embrace it they will gain more confidence in their abilities. Mars also represents how we use (or make use) of our muscles. When Mars is strong in a person's natal chart, there is a strong drive for anything that they desire. They are courageous, energetic, and passionate about life. There is confidence in their steps and a need to accomplish something in life. They make use of their energies and they are resilent fighters of "life". They are ambitious and will do whatever it takes to succeed. Too much energy from Mars can make a person ruthless in their approach to life. These natives will constantly be looking for a fight! They may equally believe that everyone is "out to get them". They are ugliest when jealous. They love to win and conquer so much that life becomes harder for them, forcing friends to become enemies. They can't accept losing gracefully and leave themselves vulnerable to be attacked as a result. They equally do not "win" gracefully, becoming overconfident in their abilities. When the energies of Mars are blocked, the natives of this position struggle to be decisive in their actions. They "think" more than "take action". The energy of the individual may be lacking, making them sluggish and lazy. They get too comfortable and content, making them miss the "storms" that are coming their way. They are slow to build passion and there is a tendency to be cowardly; avoiding intense situations. They do not openly accept challenges. In fact this type of energy will fight to maintain their own peace. This also means they struggle to defend themselves. Women with blocked Mars energy need even more sexual motivation than their male counterparts and may be less sure of their abilities. Unfortunately, astrologically Mars is a "malefic" planet...this means that even the greatest Mars positions will encounter challenges when trying to gain the benefits of this planet.
Note: For homosexual people, the priniciples of masculinity and femininity do still apply. All men (or people for that matter) are motivated by Mars in the world; homosexual men just tend to be motivated sexually by this masculine principle as well. Lesbian women are also motivated by the men in their lives through Mars (excluding sexual attraction), while also embracing this energy as apart of themselves. Many lesbians may also have male friends that match the qualities of their Mars.
This may be one of the most controversial descriptions in astrology. Let us examine where Mars finds dignity and Mars finds debility.
Mars in Aries-The Ram of Mars
Mars+Aries=ASSERTIVE ENERGY! Dignity(+5)
The ram in astrology has always been representative of heroism in ancient Greece and Rome. The ram has also been a symbol of authority, particularly the mythical "Golden Fleece". The ram's representations come from the actual qualities of the ram. The ram is brave, daring, and always willing to put up a fight even when the odds seem against them. Their reactions are quick, to the point they move impulsively (even into the most dangerous areas). During the mating season is when we see the true strength of the Ram. A good example of this fighting strength is shown through the Bighorn rams. Bighorn rams battle one another for mating rights and dominance over the bachelor herd. This is one fierce battle where rams use their horns to bash one another, somtimes even kicking one another to get the upper hand. During the mating season, this fighting can last for hours even on rocky cliffs and inclement weather. Even after the battle between rams is over, the "winning" ram is then challenged by the ewe (the female sheep) to a race in order to truly "win" her receptance.
It is pretty clear that Mars is in domicile in the sign of Aries. Mars, which is the planet of action, passion, drive, and fighting spirit, is now in the sign of Aries...a sign that represents passion, action, courage, and individuality. In this sign Mars feels free and strong. Mars gets things accomplished quickly...just the way Mars wants it! In this sign Mars is not necessarily unafraid...yet Mars draws its courage from its fear, especially its fear of losing. In this sign there is so much energy. Mars can do just about anything, at anytime, and anywhere. The natives with this position have a passionate combination here. They are energetic, ready for almost anything that comes their way. They don't hesitate to take action...with them there is no time to beat around the bush. When they desire something, the desire for it is enough to motivate them. They thrive on challenges and love to challenge themselves whether mentally or physically. They have strong potential for athleticism, no matter their gender. While they may not be physically strong, they use whatever strengths they do have to "conquer". Even when they get knocked down, they seem to come right back up, ready for another challenge. Sexually, there is a lot of energy and passion. They are daring sexual partners, willing to do this anytime or anywhere (especially men). Women may project these energies on their "male" interests. Because they are motivated by challenge, the sexual challenge alone can be enough for them to take action. Sexual foreplay may include a little "rough housing".
The downside to this position is that they can be highly aggressive. Natives of this position may not realize it, but they incite challenge because of their abruptness. When they want something, they may want it so bad they don't consider those around them. Whether its a love interest (that may belong to another) or a brand new car (that may belong to another), they have a tendency to go after whatever they want regardless of the situation. They can be foolish and impulsive, taking on challenges that may not be suited for their energies or strengths. They may not pick their battles well. They have to win at everything, and sometimes this makes them irritating losers. They can be violent when they don't get their way and unremorseful when they "remove" you from the scene (this depends on other energies in the chart). Sexually, they may be more concerned about feeding their own desire, but they may not be too concerned about how pleasurable sex is to their "significant other" (this depends on other energies in the chart). When they are jealous, they get really competitive and may get so caught up in competing, they forget what they fought for. Natives of this position must learn how to excercise discipline when taking a course of action. This discipline can be practiced by channeling their energies into constructive avenues such as sports or physical exercise. Learn to consider your surroundings before immediately jumping in, otherwise you will only create more obstacles when trying to reach a goal. Their fighting tactics involve using whatever is available (whether their own energies or the energies of a weapon) to defend themselves. They tend to work better independently on projects. You must learn to control your temper by meditating before acting.
You may relate to this description if you have Mars (planet of action, passion, and aggression) in the first house (the house of the self). If you have planets in Libra, Taurus, or Cancer in your natal chart this may tame your Marsian energies.
Because Mars is considered a "malefic" planet, the energies of Mars will be difficult for ALL natives to benefit from. However, if you have negative aspects to Mars or Mars is accidentally debilitated by house placement, you will experience even more setbacks when trying to gain the benefits of Mars.
Aries is a cardinal sign (initiating) and a fire sign (energetic).
Mars in Scorpio-The Scorpion of Mars
Mars+Scorpio=INTENSE ENERGY! Dignity(+5)
The sign of Scorpio is typically one of the smallest creatures represented in the zodiac wheel. Yet, it has been characterized with the qualities of evil, jealousy, passion, intensity, and destruction. Why is this so? When we examine this interesting arachnid it is clear that the venom of the scorpion is what most fear about this creature. The venom of a scorpion can do a multitude of harmful things; from laming to killing even a larger species or predator. What is even more interesting about the Scorpion is that it is the species itself that can control the usage of their venom. And they may not have to penetrate in order to use this venom. A good example of this can be found when looking at the South African Spitting Scorpion (also known as the Dark Scorpion). This scorpion is said to have fantastic aim, shooting its venom into the eyes of those who disturb it. Scorpions may also use their pincers. When looking at the mating style of the Scorpion, we understand just how much the Scorpion will defend itself, even against its own mate. Males typically go after the female, killing any other male that may be interested ( as well as devouring it as a morsal of food). Even after this battle is over, the battle of forcing the female is a tough one, as the female is usually bigger and does not like to give in without a fight. Yes, there may be "stinging" involved. And possibly, the female may devour him soon after she has taken in his sperm. While Scorpions have always been a symbol of sexuality (possibly because the stinger shares a resemblence and a similar function to the male's genitals), many may be surprised that the actual Scorpion does not have sexual "penetrative" intercourse. Instead, the male will "drop" his pocket of sperm onto the ground, and maneuver the female towards it. Scorpions are tactile fighters, using both ambush and manipulation to get what they want.
Mars is traditionally considered in domicile when it is in the sign of Scorpio. While some still believe that Scorpio is the ruler of Mars (making Mars in domicile in this sign), many modern astrologers dismiss the traditional ruler of this sign (and instead have embraced that Pluto is the sole ruler of Scorpio). However, I do believe that Scorpio is one of the most comfortable placements for Mars. Therefore, my addition of this dignified placement still stands; that Mars is in domicile in Scorpio. (This does not mean that in my opinion Pluto has no influence on the sign of Scorpio. I will be discussing further about this in my descriptions of Pluto).
Mars is the planet of action, energy, passion, assertion, sexuality, and drive. Scorpio is the sign of intensity, passion, power, sexuality, and transformation. In this sign, Mars feels ULTIMATELY POWERFUL. Its strength is intensified, making the planet Mars feel near invincible, just as Mars wants it. Mars can take action...and in this sign Mars can actually drive its actions to completion when it wants. In this sign, there is no stopping Mars once the desire is there. Natives with this position have invincible energy. Just like the scorpion, they may not be physically strong, nor may they be extremely tall or scary looking. In fact, their energy is usually like a "sleeping giant"...often waiting to be awakened by a "real" challenge. The females of this position tend to seem stronger than the males at first...but don't be fooled by this. The males have a power inside that may be more venomous. These natives act in secret, yet they have the potential to accomplish so much in one day. When these natives desire something there is so much passion in them, that others who have been paying attention are inspired by it. They do not readily challenge others...that is not their style. Their biggest challenge (or challenger) is always themselves. They are always looking for ways to improve on themselves; to overcome weaknesses that lie within. Because they are often fighting inner battles within, the outside world is nothing more than a tool to feed the power within. They are always ready for challenges and their only fear is fear itself. And yet, they do fear...a lot of things! This is actually what is motivating their intensity. These natives are not to be toyed with. You may think you have the upper hand with them...but trust me, once you mess with them they will be out for blood. The interesting part of this is that they may not physically touch you right away. Oh, no. They will first start by instilling fear in you, attacking you at the deepest part of your nature. Eventually, they will find your "weakness", whether it's a physical one, mental one, or especially if it involves the things you emotionally hold dear. Sexually, these natives are explosive. At first, they may be more hesitant to give sex right away. This is because they do not wish to be overpowered by their own desire for another and they need to know that they will be able to be in control. Don't be fooled by this though; while they are holding all of this intense energy back, they are typically building for the "finale". These natives want to make an impact on their enemies and sexual partners...this is how they let you know who is in charge. Therefore, even sexually, they must find your weakest "spot". (Some females may project these sexual energies on their "males of interest"). Sexual foreplay may include a bit of "tusseling" and/or "wrestling". They may stare when ready for sex. Sexual forepplay may also involve role playing, where they can make use of their "transformative" abilities.
The downside with this position is that these natives are ruthless when it comes to what (or whom) they desire. They may know how others feel on a deep level, and yet those feelings become unimportant to them when they are on a mission (this depends on other energies in the natal chart). They can be so obsessed with obtaining or succeeding, that they can't seem to take "no" for an answer. Mars in Scorpio may not even care when they are taking what may belong to another as long as they get what they want from it. This can draw enemies to them rather quickly. Sexually, they have a strong need to be in control, to the point they are inconsiderate of the sexual needs of their partners. They may give you sex only to be in control of you. If they are not in control, they will show a sudden lack of passion during sex. They can be pushy and abusive. When they are jealous they may be cold, conniving, and decietful. Sometimes when they act on jealous feelings, their "victim" may not be aware who it is. If slighted they will only forgive after they have gotten their revenge. Mars in Scorpio natives must learn to temper their drives by considering the desires of others. This can be achieved by more social contact with others. Otherwise, this will become your greatest "weakness". You can't have everything you want in this world...some things are off limits. If you make more enemies than friends, goals will be harder to achieve. Beware of your obsessions...it's wasteful to fight a meaningless war, especially when the adversary or obstacle has already been removed. Be careful of creating enemies or obtsacles for yourself in order to test your skills or endurance. This can be destructive in the long run. Avoid using sex as a weapon.
You may relate to this description if you have Mars (planet of action, assertion, and passion) in the 8th house (house of death, transformations, and inheritance). If you have planets in the signs of Libra, Taurus, or Cancer in your natal chart this may tame your Marsian energies.
Mars is a "malefic planet", so Marsian benefits will not be easy for any native to gain. If you have negative aspects to Mars or Mars is accidentally debilitated by house placement, you may have even more setbacks. A debilitating position for Pluto (Scorpio's other ruling planet) may also cause minor setbacks.
Scorpio is a fixed sign (immovable) and a water sign (emotional).
Mars in Capricorn-The Goat of Mars
Mars+Capricorn=Focused Energy! Dignity(+4)
In astrology, Capricorn is typically known as the "sea-goat". To clear up any confusion, the "sea-goat" is actually the father of all goats, Pricus...which is the symbol that has come to represent Capricorn. The legend behind the sea-goat is the belief that all goats once came from the sea. They eventually made their way to the surface and evolved into the goats we know of today. For the sake of this description I will be using the characteristics of the goat as an example.
Goats are considered lively and inquisitive, yet ambitious creatures. They are intelligent and can learn how to escape when they want to achieve something, from climbing, jumping, or crawling under fences (some of them can even unlatch a gate). They can climb to the highest mountain peek and can even climb a tree. The Alpine Ibex species of goat are one of the most notable species of goat because they can literally climb up vertical walls of a dam without fear. Competition is something that wild goats are the most familiar with. They learn to compete for food as "kids", and even through adulthood learn to take what they need by removing any other obstacles. Male goats fight for everything important to them, whether its food, shelter, or mating rights. Goats only fight if it is necessary for their survival. Mating rituals develop much earlier in the goat species. Mounting is a behavior that is used to both mate and dominate other goats in the herd. In order for goats to be accepted in the herd, they must prove their strengths and defend themselves. The more mature goats will dominate the herd. Male goats (bucks) may sometimes refuse to mate with a female goat (called a doe). This happens more often when he has lost interest in his female counterpart because of too much comfortability. Challenge helps incite their passions for mating. When they do care to mate, they will focus all of their energy on it, even refusing to eat for the sake of mating. Female goats tend to be just as ambitious, willing to mate with even an immature buck. Does will often encourage the male by "flagging" her tail and running about the area near him. Goats are more active when they are healthy and slim.
Mars is considered exalted in the sign of Capricorn. This has caused controversy among many people who read astrology because the qaulities of this sign seem to contrast the qualities of Mars. However, I understand exactly why astrologers believed this sign to be the sign of exaltation for Mars. An exaltation happens when the planet gets a burst of focused energy from the sign that it is residing. Focus on the planet's energy is enheightened and there is a sense of exaggeration when a planet is expressed in the sign of exaltation. Mars is not necessarily in domicile here...Capricorn is obviously much colder than the fiery Mars. However, when Mars is in Capricorn, Mars is focused, ready to overcome any obstacle that stands in its way. Mars is not just filled with energy...it now has goals and ambitions to achieve. It has now focused its energy on survival and long term security. Mars is even more focused on winning and conquering. How does this benefit the natives of this position? The natives with Mars positioned in Capricorn are very focused on whatever it is they want to achieve. They don't care what it takes, they will succeed. Capricorn is ruled by Saturn, the planet of discipline and long-term security. What drives Mars in Capricorn natives is their need for security...and they have just enough discipline to achieve what they desire. Mars in Capricorn natives are practical in their ambitions. They want to win, and they will not go after anything (or anyone) that they know they cannot win. They are more motivated when they have a plan or a goal. These natives may be the types to create short-term and long-term goals in their heads. To many, they seem very mature and poised because of their serious focused energy. They are not easily distracted when there is an important job to be done. (This depends on other energies in the natal chart). Sexually, they are more motivated when they can dominate their partners or when their partners prove to be sexually experienced enough (the latter is especially true of women with this position). Sexual foreplay may include master/slave scenerios. They may be turned on by the feeling of being the boss/parent/teacher, while the other is the employee/child/student. They like when everything is well planned out; this is also a turn on.
The downside to this position is that they can be ruthless...possibly more ruthless than any of the other signs mentioned above. There is a cold and calculating way about their energies. They may cast aside personal feelings of love and compassion for the sake of success. They are all about doing what is necessary to sustain their own survival. For them, it's every man (or woman) for themselves. They may do things that are underhanded when trying to win something or the affections of someone. There is no honor when they are trying to win; there is only success. This dishonorable quality is stimulated from a fear of loss. This is also the case when they are jealous. They become really competitive and even more underhanded when they feel threatened. Sexually, their need to constantly be "in charge" can be overwhelming. They may make their partners feel "controlled" most of the time. They may punish their partners when they feel threatened by cutting off sex or forcing partners against their will to comply. Mars in Capricorn natives must learn to control their need for control. Natives of this position may be surprised to know that this can be achieved by letting things go. Natives of this position are too serious and dedicated. Learn to let loose every once in a while. There is nothing wrong with being vulnerable; that is the only way you will enjoy your success. After all, what is the point of ambition if ambition has hardly any benefits? True courage comes from the ability to take chances and overcome fear; don't be so focused on your goals that you miss other opportunities. Underhanded tactics could set you back rather than move you forward.
You may relate to this description if you have Mars (planet of action and passion) in the 10th house (house of career, prestige, and authority). If you have planets in Taurus, Libra, or Cancer in your natal chart this may tame your Marsian energies.
Mars is a "malefic" planet, which means that even in its best position, there are still challenges when trying to gain the benefits of this energy. If you have negative aspects to Mars, planets in signs that Saturn does not agree with (Cancer, Leo, sometimes Aries), Saturn is debilitated by sign placement, or Mars/Saturn is accidentally debilitated by house placement, you may experience even more setbacks when trying to gain Marsian benefits.
Capricorn is a cardinal sign (initiating) and an earth sign (physical).

Mars in Cancer-The Crab of Mars
Mars+Cancer=Fluctuating Energy Debility(-4)
Cancer in astrology is representative of protection, home, and family. This crustacean is known to be protective. They have a tendency to be aggressive toward one another, especially Male crabs. Male crabs tend to fight for mating rights, as well as hiding holes. Hiding holes are one the crab's many defenses. Their biggest defense is their own hard shell, which protects them from whatever attack comes their way. Another way they defend themselves is through their own "pincers". These pinchers are usually used to "bluff" and scare away threatening situations. However, crabs may also use these "pincers" to latch on to things (including enemies)...and once the crab latches on, it may be difficult for them to let go. Even though crabs are aggressive towards one another, ironically they know how to "pull together" with other crabs in order to survive. This makes their behavior patterns complex. While most crabs generally walk sideways, some crabs are capable of walking forward, or some may walk backwards. Most crabs breathe through their "gills" which is why even a land crab needs to be near the ocean. Many crabs are capable of swimming and propeling through water for long periods of time. Some crabs can even live underwater! When crabs molt, they are the most vulnerable. When the female molts, she is much more receptive to mating. Males may use signals to let an interested female know that he is interested in mating. He may also build a home for her to lay her eggs. Their mating style usually resembles a "hug", typically where the male holds the female in his grasp belly to belly.
Mars is considered falling in the sign of Cancer. Mars is the planet of action, passion, aggression, and sexuality. Mars is a planet that also represents physical independence. Cancer is the sign of home and family. It is the sign of emotions and protection. Mars is also the sign of the masculine principle; Cancer is the sign of femininity and nurturing. In this sign, Mars is lacking energy behind the moods and dependency of Cancer. There is a conflict of desires here, in which the native craves support, yet also craves independence. In this sign, Mars is unsure and insecure. In the sign of Cancer, Mars cannot seem to focus its energies on anything other than the things that it holds dear to its heart: its family, home, and its emotions. How does this affect natives with this position? Natives with this position may very well be capable of being courageous, especially in familiar "territory". Yet, the issue lies in the fact that their emotions rule their actions. They may want to accomplish things in the world and may have a strong need to be successful or win. But they are insecure and constantly need support and reassurance to feel strong enough. In fact, natives with this position may never feel good enough! Cancer is ruled by the moon (the planet of emotions). Natives of this position have a tendency to let their insecurities show when they are angry, which leaves them vulnerable to attack. This is because they have no control over their feelings of anger; neither can they control their fear. When they are afraid, they can't help but flinch or react. And trust me, these natives are quick to react. While they are defensive, it almost seems easy to get under their skin because they cannot handle challenges. They may overcompensate by "bluffing" and starting problems with others. But this only leads to their demise if their actions cannot match their bluffs. They have a tendency to go into hiding or manipulate situations when things get messy, even when they are the cause. This can make them seem like cowards, especially when they try to victimize their actions. When they are jealous, they may be manipulative and overemotional. Sometimes, they may not be able to find the energy to compete, and may simply wallow in their feelings of jealousy. This is unhealthy, because they will eventually explode with anger. They tend to blame others for setbacks in their life, hardly taking responsibility for their own actions (this depends on other energies in the chart). While they may not be home-bodies or physically dependent on the survival of their family, they may be too attached emotionally to their families. This makes it difficult for them to be independent from what they are used to. They tend to do things out of habit and struggle to challenge what they have been taught in their own homes. Their attachment to their family can also cause problems because they may not let family members fight their own battles. Even if their family members are in the wrong, they will still try to fight for the sake of their family. They must be careful of fighting for the "motherland" or the family blindly. These natives must learn to be independent from their families; stop expecting your family to support you all the time and learn to support yourself. This will be achieved by developing your own goals and putting your own skills to use. Do not be so quick to react to threats. Remember that the enemy's purpose is to get under your skin. Don't let them have the upper hand. Eventually you must learn to control your sensitivities, otherwise you will be your own worse enemy. This will only be achieved through experience. Each challenging experience will make you more resilient.
The upside with this position is that they can be champions/defenders for the "underdogs". They are compassionate, bringing their passionate side to the world of care and support. They are especially passionate about defending/protecting their families. There is a soft spot for the ones they love, their country, and/or their cultural traditions. Once you mess with their family (or their cultural traditions/country), they will do whatever it takes to protect this. Interestingly enough, they may not even get along with their own family (depending on other energies in the chart). Yet, when it comes to them, blood is thicker than water, so outsiders are more of an enemy to them than their own family. And they know how to come together with their families to fight! You may be surprised that when they come to battle, they come in numbers. While their emotions can sometimes hinder their ability to focus, they may understand their weaknesses and they are able to make use of them. Their emotions can sometimes motivate them to do things they never even believed they could do! Natives with this position are sensitive to the needs of others (even the men of this position). This is very useful sexually. When they love another (and they recognize their partners love them) they may be extremely passionate sexually. Females with this position may be less afraid of pregnancy than most women, and may even be turned on by the idea of getting pregnant (males may be turned on by the idea of getting a woman pregnant). This of course depends on their feelings at the time. They seem to be psychic sexually, easily being able to intuite the sexual needs of their partners even without their partners telling them. Men have an unusual understanding of women sexually. Natives with this position may make excellent gynecologists (doctors who specialize in the sexual/reproductive healthcare of women). Sexual foreplay may include cooking (perhaps naked). Feeding and coddling scenerios may also be a turn on. Because they get excited by emotional stirs, they may like to be spooked or forced into submission (they may like doing these things to their sexual partners). They may get turned on by a little S&M. Natives of this position may like their chest touched or may get a rush out of touching the chest of their sexual interest.
You may relate to this description if you have Mars (planet of action and passion) in the 4th house (house of home, family, and tradition). If you have planets in Aries, Scorpio, or Capricorn in your natal chart, this may give you more Marsian energy. While Mars energy is normally embraced by men, because the sign of Cancer is ruled by the moon (a feminine planet), men may be more uncomfortable in "their own skin" with this position. Females with this position, however, may be more willing to embrace Cancerian energy, and therefore will be more willing to embrace the energies of their own Mars.
Because Mars is a "malefic" planet, all natives of Mars will experience challeneges when trying to gain benefits. However, if you have positive aspects to Mars/Moon, signs that the moon agrees with (sometimes Cancer, sometimes Taurus), Moon is dignified by sign position, or Mars/moon is accidentally debilitated by house placement, you may have more advantages to help you gain Marsian benefits.
Cancer is a cardinal sign (initiating) and a water sign (emotional)

Mars in Taurus-The Bull of Mars
Mars+Taurus=slothful energy Debility(-5)
The bull in astrology is usually representative of pleasure and determination. In ancient Greece and Egypt they were considered symbols of fertility and creation. Yet, believe it or not, bulls (and cows) can be ferocious animals, difficult to get close to when they feel threatened. Most times cattle breeds are stubborn, and resist being moved unless persuaded by food. An old time "bullfighting" myth is that bulls were often incited with anger by the color red. The truth is bulls are not angered by the color red; but (being color blind to green-red pigmentations) it is actually the movement of the matadores cape the angers them. Bulls do not like sudden movements. In fact, they don't like when people get too close to them at all. Male bovine tend to be more aggressive when they are alone because they feel more threatened. In a pasture with other cattle, they may be less aggressive as they are more secure. When one part of the cattle is in danger, the other cattle also tend to react and help each other. The bovine species is strong and can kill anything just by trampling to death. To add, the bovine species with the longest horns can do the greatest damage.
Mars is considered traditionally to be in detriment in the sign of Taurus. I agree that this traditional idea still applies to this position. When a planet is in detriment, there is usually a conflict of natures present. This is both motivated by the natural energy of the sign as well as the sign's ruling planet. When two opposite planets are involved in the influence of one sign, this usually causes major conflict within the natives. Mars is the planet of action, aggression, passion, and ambition. Taurus is the sign of pleasure, security, and peace. Taurus is ruled by Venus (the planet of love and pleasure). In this sign, Mars feels weighed down. In this sign, Mars struggles to take immediate action and the passion feels deadened. Mars feels strong, yet nothing in this sign is motivating Mars to take on challenges right away. In fact, everything is stopping Mars from challenging itself including love, beauty, and pleasure. How does this affect the native? The native wants to be strong and brave, but their natural tendency is security-oriented and peace-loving. They want to be capable of defending themselves and the things they own. Yet, natives with this position are easygoing and slow to take action. On a daily basis, they move about getting things done in a slower manner than everyone else. While they may be capable of working, they need a lot of time to rest and sleep which can drain their energies. They tend to be stubborn...so stubborn that the more you pressure them to move, the more immovable they become. This makes it difficult for them to be exciting and they have a tendency to dull situations. Many may overestimate the males of this position (perhaps their potentials/abilities) because they seem physically strong..yet they may no be as quick to prove their capabilities. Natives of this position may underestimate others, only seeing the physical weaknesses or strengths of others, rather than the powers that may lie within their enemies. To add, they may only see their own strengths and may not be cognizant of (or they may ignore) their own weaknesses. Regardless, these natives are overly concerned with being strong, while constantly afraid of appearing weak to others. These slow energies may be especially evident sexually. Natives of this position need to feel pleasure before they get excited, which may make their partners feel like they are doing all of the work (Females of this position may struggle the most to get excited). While they may be very strong or strong-willed, they don't often feel as courageous as others. They may overcompensate by bullying those they feel are weaker than them. This insecurity can be taken advantage of by people who can see right through them. It's not that these natives don't like being active and doing things in the world...they just have a need to do what they like to do when they like to do it. They want to maintain their security, yet they also want to achieve. They may try to hold on to their "strengths", and they may not want anyone to challenge and take these "strengths" or abilities away from them. This is because they never feel strong enough and they always have the need to prove their strengths. This is what causes the conflict of wills/desires. They struggle to take on challenges because if they don't like it, they won't do it (or at least they will do it with less vigor). While normally the Marsian bull does not give up when it wants something, when it feels forced to do something it may only continue if there are benefit. Otherwise, the individual may easily give up on things that seems to threaten their security. They can be lazy, and would rather spend most of their time relaxing and having a good time (either that or they are slow to meet deadlines). This can be detrimental to their working environment. These natives are easily jealous of others...and this is when they actually feel the need to defend what is theirs. They may show this side to themselves by diverting or manipulating other people away from their interests, even when they themselves are slow to actively go after what they want. Rather than actively compete with you, they'd rather take you down to their level. Natives of this position must learn to set aside their own need for pleasure, and think about the things that need to be accomplished. Do not be so quick to resist when you are given new challenges. Let these challenges motivate you to do even more in the world. Don't be so reliant on your partners to do everything for you. You are going to have to give a little more of your energy and time. Just because there are no tangible benefits to whatever you are doing does not mean it is not beneficial. In the long run, by overcoming your insecurities you will feel free from them. Learn to be aware and alert of things going on around you. Don't get too comfortable when you get the upper hand. Don't wait until your security is threatened to take action; prepar yourself. Everyone has a weakness...even you. True strength is drawn from within...avoid thinking that bodily strength is the only way to win a fight. If the native taps into their creative sides, this can be avoided. The less you try to do, the less you will be capable of doing. One method may not work for every situation.
There is an upside to every position in astrology. The upside to this position is that they are determined when they really, truly desire something. They may need more practice to be up to a challenege, but practice usually makes "perfect". They don't cave to outside pressures which makes them very strong individuals. While their resistance can be frustrating on some occasions, it can also be beneficial when protecting them (and others) in the long run. While they are not as easily motivated as other signs, when you threaten the things (and people) they love, they have a ferocious temper and will charge ahead without stopping. These natives tend to have a passion for love and pleasure. This may influence them sexually. When they really love you (or love what you do), they may be more motivated sexually and may even surprise you with their ferocity. While the Males and females with this position may be more underestimated, trust me they are not to be played with. They are turned on when they partners feel pleasure...so unlike other Mars positions they truly enjoy the pleasure of physical touch rather than conquering. Mars in Taurus natives are known for being determined when trying to win, but when they lose, they know when to accept defeat. Mars in Taurus natives tend to be excellent at sports or competitions involving the body. They may also be good at fighting to preserve nature, traditions, or historical monuments. They tend to do their best in creative fields, especially when it comes to music. In fact, they have the ability to use their creativity to fight injustice and gain opportunities. Unlike most Marsian natives, their patience and persistance may pay off in fields that require a softer, yet firmer hand. They have potential to be excellent craftsmen/craftswomen. Sexual foreplay may include dancing, singing, eating, or any physical caressing or massaging.
You may relate to this description if you have Mars (planet of action and passion) in the 2nd house (house of possessions, self-worth, and talents). If you have planets in Capricorn, Aries, or Scorpio signs in your natal chart, you may gain more Marsian energy. Males with this position may feel more uncomfortable in "their own skin", because Taurus is influenced by the feminine energy of Venus. Women, however, may be more comfortable with this "Venusian" energy, thus they may embrace their Marsian energies more readily than other women.
Because Mars is a malefic planet, ALL Marsian natives will struggle to gain the benefits of Mars. However, if you have positive aspects to Mars/Venus, signs that Venus agrees with (Pisces, sometimes Taurus, sometimes Libra), Venus is dignified by sign position, or Venus/Mars are accidentally dignified by house position, you may find more advantages when trying to gain the benefits of Mars.

Mars in Libra-The Scales of Mars
Mars+Libra=apprehensive energy Debility(-5)
The sign of Libra is one of the unique signs in the zodiac because it is the only one representative of an inanimate object. A scale is a weighing tool, used to measure the weight of other objects. In ancient times, the scale was useful during trades and bartering because the weight of objects helped determine the value of things. Scales today have evolved from being the two-plated scales that were used long ago. Now, scales have been digitized using numbers to determine weight accuracy. Aside from the scale object, we are also able to create scales in our own mind to help us weigh "value". Color scales and music scales are scales used to determine data as well. Therefore, scales are based off an idea rather than an actual figure or being. Scales do not function on their own...in order for a scale to work it requires human operation. The creation of the seesaw (teetor-totter), which is a recreational form of balancing two people, is very much a larger version of the scales. There is a possibility that the idea of the scales may have influenced the idea of the seesaw. The scales have been a symbol of justice, fairness, unity, peace, and ultimately balance. The Roman goddess of justice (Justitia) would often hold scales of judgement. She was known for carrying a scale in one hand, and a sword in the other. She was a personification of morals in the judicial system. The scales in her hand would represent the truth on one side and a lie on the other side.
Mars is considered in detriment in the sign of Libra. Mars is the planet of action, aggression, and passion. Libra is the sign of balance, fairness, justice, unity, and ultimately peace. In this sign, Mars feels caught between its own energies and the energies of those around it. Mars struggles to be assertive because it is in a sign that is indecisive. In this sign, Mars struggles to be passionate because all sides must be considered. The natives with this position tend to be caught between taking action and being considerate, causing a conflict of natures. They may be very active individuals, especially in social situations. Yet, when the time calls for immediate action, they are not the most reliable. They struggle to come to quick decisions because they are very unsure of their own abilities. They may have times when they are impulsive and jump into situations...yet as soon as they begin, they start to back down when things get too messy. Most times when making decisions, they need others to help them be assertive. This can make them extremely co-dependent. They may prefer to be independent, yet they may feel unse without others. They may love competition, as long as the competition is light and fun. But when competing in a serious environment, they may try to find any way possible to avoid these situations. This can make it hard for them to work in competitive fields of work. They like to keep things light and so their passion for things tends to be outweighed by a need to "take things easy". This may have an affect on their sexuality. They may be easily turned on (especially by a beautiful/handsome partner), but may be extremely indecisive and unsure of their own sexual abilities (especially females with this position). This may make their partners feel unexcited and a lack of passion when in the presence of this uncomfortable sexuality. Females with this position have a tendency to overcompensate their lack of sexual ability by giving a lot of love (or by focusing on their charms or physical appearance). Sadly, while they are unsure of their own sexual desires, they tend to be extremely easy to pressure into submission. Yet, even if they aren't submissive, they tend to lack passion. And let's face it; if its not something we want, we lack vigor. Truth be told, Mars in Libra natives don't know what they want as easily as everyone else. Everything has to be considered before they make decisions and if the weight of something is too pricy, they will go with the easiest decision possible that costs the least. This makes taking on challenges difficult...because they really don't like challenges (this depends on other energies in the chart). They especially hate violent challenges. In these situations they may be extremely indecisive and may even try to use their kindness to manipulate situations. This is the cowardly side to them. They may also play the "blame game", blaming other people for their own aggressions (or lack of aggressions). Both men and women of this position tend to project their energies more often than any other Mars positions. These natives tend to be lazy, preferring to socialize on the job and look good, rather than do any laborious work. When these natives are jealous, they may use "kindness" or manipulative tactics to make themselves appear better than another. This usually works against them. They may find it difficult to stand up for themselves and simply say "no" when they are pressured by others. Sadly, they also do not expect others to say "no" when they need. They can be "stuck up", expecting others to behave the way they do. The main problems with these natives is that hardly any decisions they make seem to be genuinely their own decision; everything they do is motivated by the ones around them. Natives of this position must listen to their own heart. If one idea doesn't seem right, then it doesn't. If it does seem right, then it does. You must at one point in your life trust your own instincts. There is nothing wrong with considering other viewpoints...but people may not always have your best interest at heart. While your indecision is frustrating, its even more frustrating when you do things that you don't really want to do through peer pressure. It is especially frustrating when you hold resentment afterwards. You must learn to put up a fight; don't be so reliant on conniving strategies or manipulating someone else in order to gain success. Beware of taking your frustrations out on those who love you. The only way to know what you are capable of is by trying to do things independently. Otherwise you'll never know your own strengths. You are a lover of peace...so do not use your kindess as a weapon. This may make you seem more manipulative than kind. These natives must also avoid using others to gain advantages.
Of course there is a positive side to this position. Mars in Libra natives are fighters for love and peace, especially their own love and peace. They will never let their aggressions destroy what (or whom) they love the most. And they will never let others destroy their love and peace either. They are fighters for justice as well, where they believe that when people do "bad" things , it's only fair that they get punished in order not to hurt others again. They believe in fairness; to them everyone should get a chance to prove themselves. They hardly ever underestimate others because they are considerate of other people's strengths and weaknesses. Because they are considerate of others, this may temper even the most aggressive energies in the natal chart. When they do things, it is with elegance, grace, and class. While they can be indecisive, when they finally come to a decision it is normally a well thought out decision that can benefit everyone around them. They can be the life of any party, getting a sudden burst of energy in social situations. They work well in a "team" environment because not only are they more active when with others, they are also more cooperative than other Mars positions. And unlike Mars in Aries and Scorpio natives, they know how to call a truce a truce, and move on. They also have a passion for love and beauty. Men with this position want to be attractive, just as much as the women with this position. They may use good looks and charms to excite their partners. They are turned on when their love interests "dress for sex". Sexy lingerie or silk robes are enticing. Kissing and romantic scenerios are other ways to excite their passions (especially for women). They may be turned on by cosplaying. They are very considerate of their partners' sexual needs. Rather than satisfy their own desires, they need to know that their partners are satisfied as well.
You may relate to this description if you have Mars (planet of action and aggression) in the 7th house (house of partnerships). If you have planets in Aries, Scorpio, or Capricorn in your natal chart this may give you more Marsian energy.
Men with this position may feel more uncomfortable with this position because Libra is ruled by Venus (a planet representative of feminine priniciples). This may cause males with this position to feel uncomfortable in "their own skin". Women, however, find it easier to feel comfortable in this "Venusian" energy, and may be able to embrace their Marsian energies more than most women. All Mars in Libra natives of this position must be careful not to project the energies that are the least "socially acceptable". Women of this position must be careful not to project their Marsian aggression; men must be careful not to project their Venusian/Libran indecision.
Because Mars is a "malefic" planet, ALL Marsian natives will experience challenges when trying to gain benefits from Mars. However, if you have positive aspects to Mars/Venus, planets in signs that Venus agrees with (Pisces, sometimes Libra, sometimes Taurus), Venus is dignified by sign position, or Venus/Mars is accidentally dignified by house position, you may find more advantages when trying to gain the benefits of Mars.
