Sports  Challenge

Mars in Cancer natives are usually motivated by their instinct when considering any challenge they take on.  Because their moods influence their actions, there are times when they simply cannot find the incentive to compete, and yet other times they are full of incentive and extreme passion.  Mars is considered falling in the sign of Cancer because the emotions can debilitate the actions of Mars.  Despite how moody they can be, they may enjoy competing in pretty much any sport, especially if it is a sport from their childhood (coming from familiarity) or a sport in which their relatives or loved ones have always supported/encouraged.  The more support they have, the more willing they are to take up challenges.  Surprisingly, these natives are also motivated to take on challenges when they are discouraged.  When people try to discourage them or downplay their abilities, that is considered a personal slight to them and this will motivate these natives to take on any challenge to prove themselves.  They are initiators, yet subtle.  They take on challenges when no one would ever expect. Cancer is a sign often affiliated with the ocean. These natives may be drawn to water sports of some sort.   These natives may be happiest being involved in sports that are seasonal such as winter Olympic sports.  This will be more accommodating for their emotional fluctuations.  Other Olympic sports may also be appealing to these natives.

Competitive Energy

Because these natives have energy that is mostly motivated by their fluctuating emotions, these natives tend to be even more passionate when they're supported or even slighted.  These natives have passive-aggressive energies.  When these natives are slighted by opponents for their gameplay,  they will be set on proving those who have slighted them wrong, thus becoming more competitive.  These natives usually do things indirectly.  They may be found sometimes waiting on the "sidelines" or hidden between teammates, in order to steal a chance at winning. If they are in a solo sport, they may pace themselves in order to get a decent score.  They may not necessarily cheat, but they know how to manipulate games into their favor.  These natives are more defensive than offensive, and they prefer defensive positions in sports.  They are less concerned about winning; rather they are more concerned about being a good challenger to opponents.  These natives have a tendency to doubt their abilities.  They may need to develop more self confidence.  They must also learn to control their sensitivites, otherwise this will inhibit them from performing at their best.

Note: Natives that have aspects from the moon to Mars or Mars in the 4th house may relate to this description.  Since Cancer is ruled by the moon, the moon's planetary aspects, the moon's position in a house, and the moon sign will influence this position.

Famous Quote from a  Mars in Cancer Athlete: "Swimming is normal for me. I'm relaxed. I'm comfortable, and I know my surroundings. It's my home."
