 The Moon's Storytellers

Moon and Storytelling

In Greek and Roman mythology the moon was represented by two goddesses. Diana (also known in Greek as Artemis) who was the goddess of hunting, animals, nature, childbirth, protection, womanhood, and of course the moon.  She was known for carrying her bows and arrows with her.  The other goddess is of course Luna (known in Greek as Selene) who considered the personification for the moon, known for her feelings for the ever sleeping human Endymion.  Another goddess that is affiliated with the moon is Hecate, the goddess of magic, witchcraft, the night, moon, ghosts and necromancy.  The fact that the moon has so many different goddesses affiliated with it shows that moon can take so many different phases.  Selene represents the full moon, the moon at its purest energy.  Artemis represents the waxing phase of the moon that is beginning to show light.  Hecate is the waning side of the moon that is beginning to darken. These phases also have symbolic meaning if we think about it astrologically.

In astrology the moon has come to represent our emotions, memories, imagination, dreams, nurture, subsconciousness, perceptions, habits, and attachments. It functions like the other planets in astrology, despite the fact that it is actually a satelitte. Therefore, in astrology it is often considered a planet. The moon in astrology acts as a supporter to all our other planets, maintaining all of our feelings and reactions.

So the real question to some might be how this all influences storytelling or storywriting.  When we tell stories of our lives or the lives of others we are often telling it from how we have perceived it.  Many of our perceptions are colored by our emotions; how things made us feel at that moment and time.  This is what inspires imagination, which is a key component in storytelling and/or story writing.  Therefore, the moon plays a very important role in our story telling abilities.  In fact, story telling in many cases is a direct channel for our emotions, reflecting our personal feelings on life.

On this website you will see descriptions of the moon, the moon signs, and their influence on writing. You may also see other planets that influence our story telling inspirations and abilities.

The moon's aspects also have an influence on the way we express our emotions.  Planetary aspects show the relationship one planet has with another based off of their degrees on a natal chart.  Conjunct aspects usually mean two planets that extremely close to one another, which means they will act in unison causing the native to feel energized and more sure of themselves.  A trine or sextile aspect usually means that the two planets will get along, and thus the native will have an easier time expressing themselves without too much trouble.  An opposition or square means the opposite; these two planets will struggle to get along, causing the native to have internal and external conflicts.  Then finally, the quincunx (or inconjunct) which means the planets will have nothing in common, causing the native to feel dissatisfaction in life.

This website will also address how the planets in houses influences our story telling or writing abilities and inspirations.
